Back in 2013 there was much debate and excitement and some heated discussions that a new record heat for a chili had been reached by Carolina Reaper after a media offensive by the grower Ed Currie the Guiness Book Of Records in November 2013 announced that Carolina Reaper had set a new record as the Worlds Hottest Chill Averaging a staggering and eye watering average of 1,569,300 scoville units with some individual peppers reaching 2.2 million !!!! Thus overthrowing previous record holder Trinidad Moruga Scorpian which had an average of 1.2 million SCU and a top score of 2,009,231
Carolina reaper was bred from a crossing of Pakistani Naga with a Red Habenero type from St Vincent in the carribean
