Description

?Florida Petite? was created by the University of Florida in the early 1980s. Although it was described in the New York Times newspaper and many other places as being able to produce fruit when grown in a 4? pot (??you can grow it in a 4? pot!?), I have to say that it does better in a 1-quart pot. Sometimes ?just because you can, doesn?t mean you should,? is an appropriate motto. This is a nice micro-dwarf tomato, producing red cherries of quite variable sizes. It was later than most of my other micro-dwarfs grown this year, but still in the ?early? category. The taste is strong and tomatoey, not sugary. It does have the tendency to split with a sudden increase in watering during the ripening stage, but many people prefer a cherry tomato with thin skin, even though it will split.
